Antipodes Theatre Company is excited to introduce their first ever WINTER DEVELOPMENT RETREAT for new work and bold ideas! Each project that is chosen will receive a minimum stipend of $250 and additional virtual support.

From musicals and puppet shows to dance pieces and devised work, anything will be considered. This retreat will provide support to writers, directors, and actors through virtual workshops, readings, mentoring and more from 17-28 June, 2020.

In this time of Isolation, I think the Team at the Alex Theatre combined has watched every series on all the streaming services and then a good portion of the content on Youtube and Tik Tok. So, the question has been put out there what other forms of entertainment are we missing out on at the moment besides theatre? Then one of the Radio Stations we were listening to asked if anyone could name one of the current members of the Wallabies Team? So, we thought that why not get to know the team and see if we can connect in the same way we have with Cat videos of late.

To kick this off, so to speak, the first Player to hit our stage is Allan Ala’alatoa who plays in the position of Prop (Now that is a bit of a theatre term, we may be able to get into this game!)

If you, like us, are missing going out to a good show then you need to tune into the Royal National Theatre in London from the 30 April at 7pm (UK time of course) to enjoy Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller switching characters as they perform as the creature in Frankenstein.

Filmed live in 2011 from the stage of the National Theatre in London this work is by Nick Dear, based on the Novel by Mary Shelley and will be free on the National Theatre’s YouTube channel for all of us to enjoy.

Every year we pause to remember the sacrifices made by the Australian and New Zealand military personnel who fought and died for our country, as well as those that followed to ensure we are able to enjoy our freedom today.

Although we are now in a different battle, one that has for a time closed the Alex Theatre in St Kilda and separated us from our Community that we love, we will not forget the people who now are standing up for our way of life and the freedoms we enjoyed.

We will be able to enjoy a new day because of the sacrifices made on our behalf.

We will not forget.
